Particularly considering that Gloria was having trouble finding a stable job and other sources of income and that the neighborhood was rife with crime.
She kept her small son in the dark about the struggles they were having to overcome in order to exist, though. LeBron probably experienced his fair share of struggles as a result, but he never felt overly deprived. When James was once questioned by Larry King, he confessed that Gloria’s efforts to raise him prevented him from feeling the loss of Anthony McClelland.
My father was never a thought for me. Gloria James was accomplishing all of my wildest dreams. There were times when Christmas and my birthday would approach, and I’d worry that I may only receive one or two presents—I understand the struggle—or that I might not receive anything at all. In either case, there would be a floor full of clutter. My mother was handling everything, so there was no need for me to even inquire as to his whereabouts.
