After returning from injury, Canadian basketball star Jamal Murray has been very active in the postseason. The Denver Nuggets selected him with the 7th overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. The kid was a fantastic complement to the team’s big guy, Nikola Jokic. They both have pushed the team to its boundaries and are now title contenders. Murray has been excellent, especially in the postseason, but he has yet to be named to the All-Star team.

Murray played professionally in Canada before he came to the US to play for the University of Kentucky. Murray entered the NBA draft after one season with the Wildcats. His father taught him the game from the very beginning, which made his trip to the NBA spectacular. Malcolm Murray’s parents encouraged his career because he began playing basketball at the young age of three.

Where are Jamal Murray s parents from?

Roger and Sylvia Murray welcomed Jamal into the world on February 23, 1997. When he was nine years old, his father, Roger Murray, emigrated to Canada from Jamaica. Whereas Murray s mother, Sylvia Murray is originally from Syria and also proceeded to Canada as a kid.

Jamal is a player who was born in Jamaica and raised in Kitchener, Ontario. Before his time in Kentucky, Murray never left the country. He worked his way out to make it to the league, with his father being his coach and mentor.

While Jamal made his dream come true, playing basketball at the highest level, his younger brother, Lamar Murray is set to achieve the same. Lamar is around 5-10 years younger than his elder brother Jamal. Currently attending the Orangeville Prep Basketball Academy,Lamar is following in his brother s footsteps. The basketball academy provides a lot of opportunities, as we might see Lamar on the prospects list in a few years.

To make it to the NBA, Lamar will have to compete professionally in Canada before he can make his debut. If the teen manages to be one of the best high school players in his country, he ll surely get a D1 offer in his senior year. Like Jamal, he ll have to get past the competition if he wishes to play alongside his brother one day. Jamal is very supportive of his younger brother s career, helping him through his own journey to one day play on the big stage.
