The storyline focuses on two individuals who hustle their way to earn a living. They join forces and use their basketball skills to earn money together. The original movie was released in 1992 and was well-received by fans.
The 1992 release featured Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes who took on the roles of Billy Hoyle and Sidney Deane. Its newest rendition directed by Calmatic features a very similar storyline. It is of two men that find their way to make ends meet. Calmatic aimed to keep the plot as close as he could to the original while adding a few tricks of his own to the screenplay. Both movies are based on the age-old stereotype that white people can t hoop.
Jack Harlow and Sinqua Walls star as Kamal and Jeremy
In the 2023 rendition, Jack Harlow stars as Jeremy, a former star in the sport of basketball. The character of Jeremy had faced injuries that put an end to his blossoming career. Sinqua Walls plays the role of Kamal Allen, a budding basketball player whose future in the sport was thrown off track. Both characters meet at a local gym and their relationship bloomed into a great partnership. The storyline also shows how despite having polar opposite personalities, Kamal and Jeremy grow closer due to their love for basketball.
White Men Can t Jump (2023) features a star-studded cast. Harlow is a blooming rapper known for his hit songs First Class and Tyler Herro while Walls has played roles on American Soul (2021) and Shark Night (2011). The cast also features Laura Harrier, Lance Reddick, Teyana Taylor, Tamera Kissen, Vince Staples, Myles Bullock, Zak Steiner. One of its most iconic crew members is famous American comedian Andrew Schulz.
Fans react to Jack Harlow and Sinqua Walls White Men Can t Jump remake
While director Calmatic initially wanted to keep the essence of the 1992 release, fans did not feel like the 2023 rendition came anywhere close to it. The reviews of both movies were opposites of each other. A rating is 2.5/10 was given to the2023remake of White Men Can t Jump, while the1992release was given a 6.8/10 rating. Fans were brutal about Calmatic s version of the 1992 masterpiece. Here are a few reactions.
